HOW TO BEAT THE POST HOLIDAY SLUMP: 5 SIMPLE WAYS

Most people were fortunate to have an extended time off of work during the holiday season. Others may have spent an extended amount of time cooking or attending family obligations. Both situations make it difficult to get back into the swing of things when it comes to going back to work. While it should have been a time to refresh, after all the gifts are opened and the New Year’s celebrations are over, there are many who are left feeling blah. However, there are several things that you can do to help you get back into the swing of things. Here are a few examples:

Ease your way back into the work week.

With New Year’s during the week, it makes it easy to ease back into the work week. A shortened week is the perfect way to pace yourself and avoid becoming overwhelmed with catching up with work. It is also important not to over-commit yourself. Be honest with others about how much you have on your plate and space commitments out.

Get some fresh air.

Trying to catch up on emails while the phone is ringing nonstop and you have people coming to your door for help is enough to send you over the edge. One of the best things you can do is take some time and go for a short walk outside or just stand outside and take some deep breaths. On a sunny day, the vitamin D can do wonders to boost your energy and reset your mindset.

Encourage others.

If you are having a hard time getting back into the swing of work, there are likely to others struggling as well. Instead of joining in with their complaints, be the one to speak positivity and improve work morale. In addition to speaking it, set the example by working through your back log without complaining.

Add in daily meditation.

Whether it’s for five minutes or thirty, meditation is a tool that is essential to the daily schedule of many. For some it is enough to sit with your eyes closed and engage in some deep breathing. Others follow a guided meditation. Any form of meditation can be a powerful tool in reducing stress and allowing positive energy to flow.

Treat yourself.

Completing the first week back after the holiday season is good reason to celebrate. Treat yourself to your favorite meal or dessert or go even further to get a massage or a little shopping. Celebrating your own accomplishments is great for self-care.

Before you know it, you will be right back in the swing of things after having some time off. We wish you all the best during the transition process and encourage you to take your time with it.
